The Role: Flutterwave is looking for a VP, Data to join the organization and drive the vision, strategic priorities, and objectives for our data platform. The individual will be responsible for leading the data engineering, data analytics, and data science teams within the organization and would report directly to the CTO.
The individual would define and execute the overall data strategy fully aligned to Flutterwave’s overall strategy. The successful candidate will implement an organizational model to improve analytics maturity, and work with the business and engineering teams to improve data literacy and shift the culture to a data driven organization. They will serve as a strategic thought partner to guide business decisions and provide input to strategies through analytics and insights. The candidate must be proficient in processing large data sets, familiarity with data structures, big-data concepts, data science, excellent communication skills, client focus, and the ability to support and foster teamwork.

In this role you will:
- Provide thought leadership and contribute to developing and executing a data strategy and roadmap
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement data-driven solutions that improve operational efficiency, customer experience, and revenue growth
- Lead and upskill the team in advance data technologies across data engineering, analytics, and data science
- Identify opportunities to utilize cutting-edge and transformative technologies such as machine learning, natural language processing, automation, big data, and digital enablement to gain a competitive advantage
- Partner with leaders from various teams across the organization to ensure that new ideas are relevant, evaluated in the right business context and implemented to achieve significant results
- Combine imaginative thinking, persistent problem-solving, business insights, and leadership to advance innovation through data
- Ensure data quality, integrity, and availability across the organization
- Develop and maintain data governance policies and procedures
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress and make data-driven decisions
- Stay current with new technologies and trends in the data field to ensure the organization is utilizing the best practices and tools
Ideal candidate will possess the following skills and competencies:
- 10+ years industry experience solving business problems through application of innovative data and analytics approaches and emerging technologies
- Bachelor’s degree and/or Master’s degree in technology or other related field
- Proven track record for success in building out best-in-class capabilities at the enterprise level identifying, evaluating, and deploying successful strategies in data and analytics
- Expertise in leading innovation across multiple areas of data: data science, analytics, machine learning, big data
- Knowledge of big data including but not limited to structured/unstructured, real-time/streaming data, external and non-traditional data sources
- Combination of analytical, technical, and business acumen
- Effective leadership, prioritization, and management of complex deliverable portfolio in a dynamic environment
- Demonstrated expertise in tackling complex issues with a track record of implementing innovative analytics/data science solutions and achieving exceptional outcomes
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts and insights to senior business leaders and partners in a relevant and actionable manner
- Teamwork, interpersonal & relationship-building skills, and ability to lead by influence and example
