Programme Overview
Background, objectives and strategic context
Background
Nigeria is home to Africa's largest Muslim population and is uniquely positioned to become a global halal economy powerhouse. The global halal market — valued at $7.7 trillion and growing — spans food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, finance, tourism, and fashion. Despite this opportunity, Nigeria's halal exports remain minimal due to the absence of a national halal certification infrastructure, inadequate awareness among SMEs, and limited market linkages. The Nigeria National Halal Economy Development Programme addresses these gaps through a coordinated national strategy to build certification capacity, develop halal-compliant industry clusters, and connect Nigerian producers to premium global halal markets.
